It’s that time of year again when families get together and make sure all the stockings are hung, the presents are wrapped and the dinner is perfectly prepared for the perfect Christmas holiday. To ensure that wonderful time is enjoyed by all remember to avoid some of the holiday hazards!
Some of the potential dangers, both inside and out, to avoid at Christmas:

Putting up Christmas decorations

Christmas lights are a standard when it comes to that perfect Christmas glitter! Everything looks better with colorful blinking lights! Just remember to take care when stringing lights in high places, such as over the stairs. When using a ladder in awkward places like this, it is easy to lose your balance and fall. It can be even more hazardous when using outdoor lighting. Propping a ladder on unstable ground can be an accident waiting to happen.

Overused power sockets

Lights for the Christmas tree, indoor lights to go up the banister, outdoor lights, and lights for the Christmas Village! We can easily overuse power sockets trying to light up the house for Christmas!. But this can lead to overheating of sockets, which could cause sparks to fly and a fire to start, or give you a nasty electric shock. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and AVOID a fire!

Christmas trees

Christmas trees alone can’t start a fire! But it can be ignited by an outside source. Some simple steps can help in guarding against the holiday hazards!
• Select the freshest-looking Real Tree available. Make a fresh cut across the tree’s base and immediately place in water. Keep the tree’s water container full at all times, checking the water level daily.
• Be extra careful with electricity, all open flames and other heat sources during the holidays.
• Check all Christmas tree lights, other electric decorations and electrical appliances with worn electrical cords. Use only approved electrical decorations and extension cords.
• Place the Christmas tree well away from space heaters, and fire places.
• Unplug tree lights and other decorations when out of the room or sleeping.
